An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Liaison Psychiatry Teams at University Hospitals Dorset , this post is open to Advanced clinical practitioner's, trainee Advanced clinical practitioner or clinicians looking to embark on the trainee ACP pathway - permanent offer subject to successful candidate securing University placement.
The team is accredited with the Royal College of Psychiatrists - Psychiatric Liaison Accreditation Network, and are actively engaged in exciting service developments in line with the Core24 model.
We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic clinician to join a highly skilled and supportive MDT, including Consultant Psychiatrists , Mental Health Nurses, Advanced Practitioners, Psychologists and support workers as we move forward with these innovative changes.
We are a 24 / 7 service; with shift patterns including cover of evenings, weekends, and public holidays. Flexible working requests will always be considered. In return we will offer educational and professional development as well as regular supervision.
Main duties of the job
This post presents a unique opportunity to assess and work alongside patients (aged 18 and over) who present in an acute general hospital setting with a mental health problem, self-harm or in a psychiatric crisis, support the families/carers and make recommendations relating to programmes of care. The role includes assessing patients referred from a variety of sources, including the Emergency Department and wards within the hospital. You will also work with patients presenting with psychosomatic disorders as well as a variety of psychological issues relating to physical disorder, as well as making recommendations relating to the admission and discharge of patients based on analysis of presenting problems.
You will provide advanced clinical advice, leadership and support ensuring the needs of the service are met by exercising and demonstrating high levels of clinical judgement, critical analysis and advanced decision making skills.
You will undertake independent assessment and management of service users to incorporate pharmacological considerations, where appropriate making complex clinical decisions regarding service user management and clinical outcomes.
Maintaining strong working relationships with Acute Hospital colleagues by providing clinical advice, support, education and training is a key aspect of the role, and part of the wider service function of improving understanding of mental health and reducing stigma.
