Job summary

If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our community mental health service in Bournemouth - on a fixed term full-time (37.5 hours per week) contract providing maternity cover from October 2023 to September 2024 .

As a mental health nurse, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team that provides assessment, treatment, and support to adults with a range of mental health problems, such as anxiety, depression, psychosis, personality disorders and substance misuse. You will work with patients in their own homes, community settings and specialist units, helping them to recover and live independently while improving their quality of life.

Main duties of the job

The primary role responsibility is being a dedicated mental health professional for a caseload of patients with whom you'll provide person centred targeted support to assist in aiding their holistic recovery. You will be focusing on the severely mentally ill, providing high quality care and treatment in conjunction with other professionals through the Trust's agreed multi-disciplinary assessment and treatment/ care programmes. You will need to be able to apply the philosophies of engagement and recovery in your work with service users.

You will be responsible for:

- Building relationships with patients, listening to and reassuring them

- Giving advice and arranging support for patients and their families or carers

- Administering medication and monitoring its effects

- Preparing and maintaining patient records and care plans

- Encouraging patients to engage in therapeutic activities and social events

- Liaising with other health and social care professionals to ensure coordinated care

- Identifying and managing potential risks to patients' safety and wellbeing

To be successful in this role, you will need:

- A degree or diploma in mental health nursing and registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)

- Experience of working with adults with mental health conditions in a community setting

- A caring and empathetic personality and excellent communication skills

- Resilience and the ability to cope with emotionally demanding situations
