Job summary

Dorset HealthCare are looking for a Band 6 Ward Sister to join their highly motivated and innovative team based on Hanham ward at Wimborne Hospital.

Hanham Ward is a 21 bedded ward specialising in Elderly care rehabilitation working alongside our experienced Staff Nurses helping to provide complex care needs to a high-quality standard of care. Come and be part of the changes within community hospitals, to support our local community with step up patients directly from the GP and step down from the local acute hospitals.

We are looking to appoint a dynamic Ward Sister with strong interpersonal skills that will look forward to the variety of challenges of caring for the elderly & dementia patients. There are excellent learning and development opportunities, both in-house and through our links with local universities, and the option of a preceptorship programme for newly qualified nurses to boost your skill development.

We have a variety of flexible shifts including part time, full time and predominately nights to support your need. Vacancies to be discussed in depth with individuals at time of interview.

  • Early - 07.30 - 15.30
  • Late - 12.30 - 20.30
  • Nights - 20.15 - 07.45

Main duties of the job

The ward sister will be working with a multi-disciplinary care team to ensure that the patient's rehabilitation journey is individualised, and goals are achieved by the patients to reach their optimum level to return to their own home or suitable placement sourced whilst embodying the Trust's values.

The department supports student nurse placements and return to nursing students and all staff are encouraged to contribute to a learning environment.

Additionally, we have links with Bournemouth University where there is the opportunity to undertake specialist modules.

  • Registered practitioner to degree / diploma level supplemented by diploma level specialist training and / or short courses or demonstrable extensive experience in the relevant specialty
  • Membership of the relevant Professional Body
