Job summary
Dorset Healthcare is responsible for administering vaccinations for adults and school aged children as part of the biggest vaccination programme in history.
We are looking for proactive and caring Registered Health Care Professionals to work within the vaccination team, the post holder will work as part of a dynamic team in delivering a safe and effective service for the delivery of vaccinations. We are flexible to fit with your other commitments and are happy to discuss the hours available from fulltime hours to part time depending what you are looking for. If you feel that you could commit to a minimum requirement of 2 weeks vaccinating a year with potentially more, we would like to hear from you.
The post holder will undertake activities such as clinical assessment, dilution when required and drawing up of vaccines from multi-dose vials where required.
As a vaccinator you will be registered Health Care Professional e.g. NMC GPhC or HCPC and have current immunisation training or a willingness to undertake the training.
Vaccination clinics are being run at the following locations:
- Bournemouth Vaccination Centre (King's Park)
- Wareham Hospital
- Westminster Hospital (Shaftesbury)
- Peripatetic team - locations around Dorset including care homes and pop-up clinics in the community

Main duties of the job
In particular, the post holder will be responsible for:
- Assisting with the configuration of the vaccination pod and vaccination station.
- Conducting clinical assessments.
- The review of complex medical histories and potential adverse reactions.
- Preparation of the vaccine prior to administration by the Vaccinators using aseptic technique.
- Undertake assessment of patients / service users care needs and administer vaccinations within the community/vaccination centre/ school setting.
- Keeping up-to-date with new vaccine competencies.
- Ensuring the best possible clinical outcomes by using up-to-date skills and adhering to evidence-based policies and procedures.
- Undertake multiple roles such as: clinical assessment, dilution and drawing up of the vaccine from multi-dose vials and additional clinical support.
- Enable the delivery of vaccinations to all eligible persons by assisting with the overall coordination of the site activity and day to day delivery of the vaccination programme.
- Ensure clinic rooms and equipment are available at the start of each session
Employment in this post requires an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which the Trust will cover the cost of. Applicants who subscribe to the DBS update service are able to present a valid DBS certificate instead of requiring a new check.
