Its an exciting time to join our two organisations, Dorset County Hospital and Dorset HealthCare, as we build on our new joint leadership model to help improve the health and wellbeing of our local communities.

We have a strong history of partnership working, and now have a new joint Chair and Chief Executive across both trusts to take this to the next level, working within Dorsets integrated care system, Our Dorset.

The Joint Director of Corporate Affairs is an exciting and challenging role, offering the opportunity to shape how we work across two organisations, providing expert and independent advice and guidance on all aspects of statutory regulation, compliance, corporate governance and effective business conduct.

Youll ensure the highest levels of probity working to statutory and legislative requirements, as well as supporting the two Boards and Councils of Governors to work effectively in the achievement of our strategic objectives within a framework of strong governance, assurance and risk management.

Your highly-developed relationship-building and communication skills will be a key strength, as will an excellent understanding of how to deal compassionately with potentially sensitive, contentious and complex issues at the most senior level.

Sound judgement, effective decision-making and excellent organisational abilities will be critical in managing the multiple demands of supporting two organisations.

Main duties of the job

To provide highly expert and independent advice, guidance and support to the CEO, Chair, Board of Directors and Council of Governors in both Trusts on all aspects of statutory regulation, compliance, corporate governance and effective business conduct for the organisation, ensuring the highest standards of probity and according to statutory and legislative requirements.

To scrutinise and report to the Board of Directors in both Trusts all new regulatory developments. To lead on ensuring both Trusts comply with relevant legal, constitutional, and regulatory requirements associated with NHS foundation trust status. To lead on the design, effective operation, and provision of assurance as to corporate governance controls supporting the membership, Council of Governors and Boards.

Ensuring the Boards and their committees are assured about the effective operation of controls which mitigate risks of failure to achieve strategic objectives.

To raise and address effectively, sensitively, and appropriately any concerns, conflicts or divergence relating to corporate governance and practice.

To be the main point of contact with NHS England and to take the lead in interpreting and communicating the requirements of the Licence and of NHS Englands Oversight Framework.

To participate with the Executive Team as a member of the senior management team to proactively contribute to the effective performance of the work of the senior team within the organisation.

Dorset County Hospital sits at the heart of the community as the main provider of acute care to around 250,000 people in the west of Dorset.

With an annual budget of £256 million, we provide a full range of district general services, including an Emergency Department, Critical Care Unit and Maternity Unit, and links with satellite units in Dorsets community hospitals.

Our hospital has approximately 350 beds, seven main theatres and two day theatres, and has been designed with a major commitment to Public Arts in Hospital.
