Specialist Community Public Health Nurse(SCPHN) Student (Health Visiting )
In Dorset we have a proven record of successfully training Health Visitors . Dorset is a beautiful county offering experience of working in rural as well as urban areas. Dorset HealthCare University NHS Foundation Trust (DHC) has close ties with Bournemouth University and has gained an excellent reputation in the training of 0-19yrs Specialist Community Public Health Nurses -all of whom have acquired jobs in the NHS following completion of their course.
DHC highly values the contribution that the 0-19yrs CYP Public Health Service makes to improving outcomes for children, young people and their families, using evidence-based, early intervention strategies.
We have the opportunity to offer Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN) Health Visiting training. The successful candidates will be appointed to a one year, fixed term training post at Band 5, (negotiation of salary may be considered based on relevant experience relating to the person specification. We welcome applications from band 6 nurses and encourage a conversation at interview). The course will commence on 2nd October 2023.
Main duties of the job
The CYP Public Health service is delighted to offer this exciting opportunity in partnership with Bournemouth University. The programme comprises 50% practical learning in a Health Visiting team within the county of Dorset and 50% academic studies. Students will be fully supported in clinical practice by a qualified Practice Assessor and a Practice Supervisor.

Postgraduate Study (PGDip)
'The standard entry requirement of a postgraduate taught programme is a UK Bachelor Honours Degree or overseas equivalent. A combination of academic and experiential learning will be considered on its individual merits and may be acceptable'. Academic
Meet academic competencies within the framework of the University requirements
- Actively participate in the course
- Work with CPA / CPS in a reflective manner
- Adhere to University policies and procedures
Practice
Using present clinical skills develop relevant competencies (within the specialist clinical sphere) to demonstrate skills as a specialist practitioner
- Work within the NMC (2015) guidelines and scope of professional practice
Interviews will be held on 2nd August2023. Applicants who are successful at the interview stage will then need to submit a formal application to the university.
