Junior Sister / Charge Nurse (Band 6)37.5 hours per week | 12-month fixed term or secondment

  • Leading the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care
  • Driving the development of a research-informed, evidence-based Outpatient Gynaecology service
  • Providing a comprehensive, compassionate service for both the community and the Trust
  • Supporting the effective management and delivery of all Gynaecology Outpatient services
  • Acting as a clinical leader and role model within the team

Main duties of the job

  • To lead and develop a researched & evidence-based Outpatient Gynae service.
  • To provide a comprehensive service for the community and the Trust in the management of all Gynaecology Outpatients.
  • To be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementing and evaluating of patient care.
  • The post holder will have limited budgetary responsibility.
  • To act as a multi-disciplinary leader for personnel involved in the Gynae Outpatient service, with emphasis upon liaison, decision making, assessment, communication, initiation of planning, development and change in the service, with support of the Matron.

Clinical:

To promote and maintain standards of professional practice in order to enhance the quality of care for gynaecology patients whilst adhering to NMC code of conduct.

To demonstrate excellent organisational skills in managing the service.

Excellent written and verbal communications skills are essential and will be necessary to develop strong relationships with all members of the multidisciplinary team, which will require effective negotiation and influencing skills in order to meet NHS targets and manage change in line with NICE/RCOG guidelines.

To assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised patient care. Review investigations and liaise with medical staff as appropriate.

To use analysis and judgment skills in the assessment of the physical, psychological and emotional needs of women who use the service.

In communicating with patients, complex and sensitive information will be delivered with empathy. This should be current and accurate.

Be pro-active in complaints management, ensuring all staff are aware of the complaints policy and able to deal effectively with complaints in the absence of the Matron.

To undertake clinical audit to ensure high standards of care are achieved and that the service is evolving.

To review, propose and implement evidence-based changes to gynaecology policies and procedures within the unit in line with NICE guidance and RCOG guidelines.

To be responsible for maintaining own professional specialist development & identify educational requirements.

To liaise with Matron with regard to untoward incidents, Complaints and staffing concerns reporting these via the RL system

To ensure compliance with all FRIMLEY Health policies and guidelines, e.g ( but not limited to ) consent , chaperoning, WHO checklist, COSHH, and Information Governance.

Leadership:

To plan and organise staff and workload in order to meet patients needs.

To be aware of all policies and guidelines relating to Frimley Health and to act in accordance with them and to actively be involved in updating policies and guidelines.

To maintain the high standards of the department by contributing towards individual and team objectives.

To actively participate and contribute towards the setting and achievement of personal objectives including appraisals.

To support the Matron by exercising leadership skills to achieve high morale.

Have a working knowledge of Key Performance Indicators.

To help co-ordinate the team with the other Sister.

Promote recruitment and retention of staff by ensuring a conducive learning environment and regular training/teaching sessions. Ensuring that staff are appraised at least annually to continue their development and career progression.

To work with the Matron in reviewing staff levels/skill mix.

To manage adequate staffing of the GOPD to include study days/annual leave sickness.

To contribute in generating new ideas/initiatives.

Ensure that formal and informal communication channels are established and maintained within the department and with all other agencies.

Act as a mentor to all staff and lead in the induction process.
