Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Advanced Practice Physiotherapist (Band 8a) to join the Pain Management Service at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust.
The post holder will provide highly specialist, autonomous physiotherapy assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management of patients with highly complex and persistent pain presentations.The role includes clinical leadership responsibilities, contribution to service development across sites, and acting as a source of expert clinical knowledge within the multidisciplinary pain team.
Non-medical prescribing is an essential part of this role and there is an expectation that the post holder will complete this additional course, if required. There is funding available for this.
The post holder will play an active role in service innovation, education, audit and research, supporting the ongoing development of high-quality pain services across the Trust.
Main duties of the job
- Establish/develop cross-site specialist clinical services, engaging and influencing a range of key stakeholders across multiple professions and leading a small team of therapists within specialist area.
- Provide an independent expert assessment, diagnosis, treatment, prognosis and advice to a highly complex and diverse range of patients. Including medication reviews and medication optimisation.
- Act as a source of clinical expertise and highly advanced knowledge for physiotherapists and other health professionals.
- In conjunction with other members of the MDT, to lead in various components of the development of the appropriate services and play an innovative and active part in developing the clinical service.
- To co-ordinate research and development activity as a major job requirement, providing information into local and national frameworks/documents.
- To provide expert advice and guidance through education both within the organisation and externally.

- Interpret and analyze clinical and non-clinical facts, which may be conflicting, to regularly provide expert advice and a second opinion to medical colleagues and other healthcare professionals. This includes the formulation of accurate prognoses, recommendation of best course of intervention and development of comprehensive discharge plans.
- Lead for the organization on the delivery of clinical services in specialist area and be the voice not only for Physiotherapy, but for other professional groups in this area. This will require a highly visible presence in clinical areas cross site and close links with patient services, staff, Associate Directors and Chiefs of Service.
- Provide expert opinion which informs the development of clinical pathways in collaboration with other multi-disciplinary teams.
