The Neonatal Unit at Wexham Park Hospital is a Level 2 Neonatal Unit made up of 2 Intensive Care, 3 High Dependency and 12 Special Care cots. The unit cares for babies over 26+6 weeks gestation and stabilises any baby under that gestation, to be transferred to a tertiary hospital/ NICU.

Our team aspires to provide high quality and evidence based; clinical, developmental and family integrated care in order to ensure the best outcomes for the babies we care for and their families.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide the highest quality care for babies and their families.
  • To assist the senior nursing staff in the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of paediatric care for an allocated group of patients from admission through to discharge or transfer.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all forms of information in accordance with Trust policy, NMC Code of Conduct and national guidance.
  • Liaise verbally with healthcare and allied professionals, when required, to ensure that the individual needs of the babies and their families are assessed, planned for and then best met.
  • Answer telephone and door entry system and deal with appropriately.
  • Welcome families and other staff to the ward areas and respond to any queries appropriately.
  • Inform families about ward routines and available facilities.
  • Recognise, respond and report to senior nursing staff and the relevant statutory authorities any child protection and children in need concerns so that the safety systems for such children and families can be put in place.
