Bank Senior Pharmacy Assistant

Job summary

We are looking for a motivated and reliable Pharmacy Dispensary Assistant to join our team at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust on a bank basis for 4 months. This role is essential to support our dispensary and ward services during a period of high demand, ensuring safe and timely supply of medicines to patients.

Main duties of the job

  • Accurately label and dispense prescriptions, including controlled drugs.
  • Support ward stock management and medicines distribution.
  • Assist with Monitored Dosage Systems (MDS) and discharge medicines.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with SOPs.
  • Provide excellent customer care and work collaboratively with the pharmacy team.

What We're Looking For:

  • NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services (or willingness to work towards).
  • GCSEs in English and Maths.
  • Previous experience in a busy environment and strong attention to detail.
  • Good IT skills and ability to work as part of a team.

As a Pharmacy Dispensary Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting the safe and efficient operation of the pharmacy dispensary and ward services. Working under the supervision of senior pharmacy staff, you will ensure timely supply of medicines to patients and contribute to maintaining high standards of accuracy and governance.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Accurately label and dispense prescriptions for inpatients, outpatients, and discharges, including controlled drugs, in line with departmental SOPs.
  • Support ward stock management through top-up services and medicines distribution.
  • Assist with Monitored Dosage Systems (MDS) and discharge medicines to facilitate patient flow.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with governance and safety standards.
  • Respond to routine enquiries from patients and healthcare staff, providing excellent customer care.
  • Participate in medicines management activities, including patients own drug (POD) checks and transcribing tasks once accredited.
  • Contribute to stock control, ordering, and receipt of goods, ensuring safe storage and handling.
  • Support training of new staff and maintain a clean, organised dispensary environment.
  • Undertake flexible working patterns, including late shifts and weekends, as part of the rota.
