Job summary
Applications are invited for the post of part-time Specialist Practitioner in Orthodontics on a locum basis to provide maternity cover. The post is based at the Wexham Park Hospital site of Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust.
This is a locum part-time post; the successful applicant will join a busy and innovative team. We are looking to appoint a high quality person who will add value to the department. We seek applications from candidates with demonstrable expertise in secondary care orthodontics.
Candidates must have full GDC registration, and be on the GDC orthodontic specialist list having completed a 3 year specialist orthodontic training programme leading to CCST or equivalent in orthodontics.
Start Date: It is anticipated that the successful applicant will take up the post from as soon as possible, at a date to be mutually agreed.
This job description is an indication of the type and range of tasks that are expected of the postholder, and other duties may be required, in line with the role and the banding. It will be reviewed and amended from time to time in consultation with the postholder to take account of changing organisational need.
Main duties of the job
The Department specialises in the treatment of complex malocclusions, often of a multidisciplinary nature, and the successful candidate would be expected to:
Treat complex orthodontic problems under the guidance of the Consultant Orthodontists
Provide advice, and where appropriate treatment
Help develop the service in accordance with Trust Policy
Provide assistance to the Consultant in the education of General Dental Practitioners and the provision of advice
Actively support the laboratory technicians in training and skill enhancement
Help develop postgraduate training programmes
Teach postgraduate students as appropriate
Commit to ongoing CPD
Actively participate in both departmental and trust matters concerning clinical governance and audit

This is a part-time (4.5 Programmed Activities, including 0.5 SPA) post, designed to support the duties of the existing Orthodontic clinicians, based at Wexham Park Hospital, part of Frimley NHS Foundation Trust. The appointment is intended for an experienced specialist Orthodontist who will participate in the delivery of Orthodontic Services under the direct or indirect supervision of the Orthodontic Consultants.
In particular, the post-holder will see patients in outpatient clinics and carry out unsupervised treatment sessions on a range of malocclusions particular to secondary care, involving fixed and removable orthodontic treatment.
All the clinical duties will be performed at Wexham Park Hospital. There is no on-call commitment.
The post-holder would be expected to work flexibly according to the demands of the service, e.g. to provide cover for and clinics at peripheral clinics when other staff members are on Annual Leave or Study Leave. They would also be required, occasionally, to perform duties required as a result of unforeseen circumstances, at the request of the Orthodontic Consultants.
