PACU Junior Sister/ Charge Nurse

Job summary

Main duties of the job

  • Lead and coordinate the daily operations of the theatre or anaesthetic team, ensuring efficient theatre utilisation and a safe environment for patients and staff.

  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised programmes of care for a defined group of patients.

  • Support and mentor junior staff, contributing to their professional growth and maintaining high standards of practice across the department.

  • Act as a deputy for the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse/Principal ODP when required, attending key meetings and supporting workforce organisation.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary colleagues to ensure seamless communication and effective patient-centred care.

  • Monitor stock levels, manage resources efficiently, and ensure adherence to departmental budgets.

  • Participate in audits, governance meetings and quality improvement initiatives to drive service excellence.

  • Maintain accurate clinical records using the EPIC patient record system and ensure compliance with Trust policies.

Heatherwood Hospital opened in March 2022 and is a centre of excellence for non-emergency care specialising in planned care services and diagnostic facilities.

The hospital is accredited withGIRFT (Getting It Right First Time) 'surgical elective hub' status as part of a national scheme to ensure the highest standards in clinical and operational practice. These hubs are designed to provide patients with quicker access to diagnosis and treatment by focusing mainly on 'high volume low complexity' surgery in areas such as ophthalmology, general surgery, orthopaedics (including spinal surgery), gynaecology and urology.

The Theatres department consist of 6 operating theatres, 1 Minor Operating Procedure Room and a main PACU unit which operates from Monday to Saturday.
