Main duties of the job

  • Provide expert clinical assessment, management, and support for patients with lung cancer throughout their care pathway.

  • Coordinate patient care and act as a key point of contact for patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team.

  • Deliver holistic, patient-centered care including symptom management, psychological support, and education.

  • Facilitate timely access to diagnostics, treatment, and supportive services.

  • Support patients and families in understanding their diagnosis, treatment options, and prognosis.

  • Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to develop and implement individual care plans.

  • Lead and contribute to service development, audit, and quality improvement initiatives.

  • Provide education and training to healthcare professionals and patients about lung cancer care and best practice.

  • Participate in clinical research and support recruitment where applicable.

  • Advocate for patients' needs and ensure equitable access to care and support services.

  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive patient records in line with professional standards.

  • Current NMC Registration
  • Degree in General Nursing
  • Teaching and Assessing qualification - has attended mentorship training
  • Studied relevant Cancer/Palliative/respiratory academic modules

Desirable

  • Relevant Masters Degree or working towards
  • Lung cancer module completion

Experience

Essential

  • Experience in working as a Cancer/Palliative/Respiratory nurse specialist
  • Systemic anti cancer therapy treatment trained willing to complete
  • Training and education of nurses and other health care professionals
  • Experience in creating, maintaining and reporting audits for service improvement

Desirable

  • Experience or running nurse led clinics
  • Systemic anti cancer therapy treatment trained

Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Evidence in attending advanced communication skills training
  • Evidence of leadership skills in a work place
  • Ability to work autonomously or as part of a team
