Job summary

To be a Fire Safety Advisor, based at Frimley Park Hospital,

As a Fire Safety Advisor, you will play a pivotal role in safeguarding patients, staff, and visitors by leading on all aspects of fire safety across the hospital. You will be responsible for developing and delivering high-quality fire safety training programmes that meet the highest professional standards and align with the Trust's Fire Policy and wider strategic objectives.

In this specialist role, you will interpret and apply fire safety legislation, providing expert advice and guidance to senior managers and teams to ensure compliance and promote a culture of safety. By combining technical knowledge with strong communication skills, you will support the Trust in maintaining a safe, resilient, and legally compliant environment.

Main duties of the job

Main Duties of the Job

  • Deliver engaging and effective fire safety training to staff at all levels, ensuring colleagues are equipped with the knowledge and confidence to respond appropriately in the event of a fire.

  • Carry out comprehensive fire safety audits across wards and departments, identifying risks, recommending improvements, and supporting teams to maintain a safe environment.

  • Provide specialist advice and support to the Fire Safety Manager, assisting with the fulfilment of statutory duties and the implementation of the Trust's fire safety strategy.

Job responsibilities

To work with the Fire Safety Manager to ensure that the facilitation of fire safety training, both theoretical and practical for staff is in place across the organisation in line with the Trusts Fire Safety and Health and Safety Policies.

The Auditing of Fire Risk Assessments on Wards & departments in line with HTM 05-01.

To ensure that awareness of the strategy and provision for suitable and sufficient training of staff in evacuation procedures are in place for all patient, public and staff areas of the hospital sites.

To support the Fire Safety Manager in ensuring that fire systems are safe, fire fighting equipment is well maintained and that fire doors and escape routes meet appropriate requirements.

To support the Fire Safety Manager to ensure that adequate systems for fire risk assessment and structural risk assessment are in place to satisfy legislative requirements and Fire Authority guidance.

To support the Fire Safety Manager in providing information to Capital Projects and Estates staff regarding the satisfactory completion of fire safety works against published fire risk assessments to satisfy legislative requirements.

  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Professional qualification in fire related subject or equivalent in experience.

Desirable

  • IOSH "Managing Safely" Certificate or equivalent.
  • Membership of a professional body i.e. Institute of Fire Engineers (IFE) etc.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience in a fire related role or discipline.
  • Experience as a trainer and presenter
  • Good working knowledge of legislation, guidance and Approved Codes of Practice that relate to Fire, Health & Safety and Moving and Handling.

Desirable

  • Experience of working within a fire safety environment
  • Familiar with NHS structures and processes relating to Fire Safety.
