Junior Sister / Charge Nurse

Job summary

The role supports the delivery and follow-up of a comprehensive, nurse-led outpatient service for post-operative orthopaedic patients. This service is holistic, evidence-based, and tailored to meet the individual needs of each patient. The post-holder will work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to ensure high-quality care, efficient service delivery, and continuous improvement in patient outcomes.

Main duties of the job

  • The post holder will be responsible for the follow up of patients who have undergone orthopaedic surgery, managing slots and appointments as required ensuring patients are seen in a timely manner.
  • The post holder requires the ability to work autonomously whilst being supported within a well-established multi-disciplinary nursing team.
  • The role requires managing nurse led clinics, implementing post-operative care instructions from consultants and providing evidence-based advice to patients.
  • The post holder will see orthopaedic patients in clinic and will manage a caseload of patients who have metal-on-metal hip arthroplasty.

  • Registered Nurse - NMC Registration
  • Post basic certificate in Orthopaedic practice or equivalent experience in Orthopaedic department
  • Mentorship / teaching course

Desirable

  • BOA casting certification
  • IRMER training

Experience

Essential

  • Relevant experience working in a general outpatient setting with variety of specialties
  • Evidence of up-to-date standards of clinical practice
  • Experience of audit.
  • Worked as band 5 or 6 within elective Orthopaedics
  • Teaching and assessing experience.

Desirable

  • Experience of nurse led clinics.

Skills & Knowledge

Essential

  • Able to demonstrate MDT working
  • Able to manage demanding situations effectively and to work under pressure
  • Able to prioritise and meet deadlines, working in an organised way with excellent time management skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • IT competent

Desirable

  • Good understanding of the national strategic context of the NHS
  • Evidence of effective change management skills
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the principles of research
