Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and energetic leader to join one of the UK's largest, most progressive pathology networks - Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Service.

We're looking for a forward-thinking Deputy General Manager to lead our Haematology and Blood Transfusion operations across three major Surrey hospital sites - Frimley Park, Ashford & St Peter's and Surrey & Sussex Healthcare Foundation trust Hospitals.

As a key member of the BSPS Blood Sciences senior leadership team, you'll not only drive local operational performance but also shape the future of Haematology and Transfusion services across all six BSPS laboratories. You'll take the lead on high impact areas such as haemoglobinopathies, digital transformation, and clinical quality, making a measurable difference to patient care and diagnostic excellence.

This is a pivotal succession role with a planned transition period, offering the chance to work alongside the current post holder before stepping fully into the role. We're looking for someone with vision, drive, and a collaborative mindset, ready to lead with confidence and deliver meaningful transformation across a large, complex and ambitious service.

Main duties of the job

Provide operational leadership for Blood Sciences at FPH, ASPH, and SASH sites.

o Lead the network-wide development and harmonisation of Haematology and Blood Transfusion services.o Oversee service performance, quality standards, laboratory accreditation, and regulatory compliance.o Deliver effective workforce planning, financial control, and service innovation.o Work collaboratively with site and specialty leads to ensure excellent patient care.o Participate in the BSPS Gold out-of-hours escalation rota, representing senior leadership during major incidents.o From December 2025, assume full accountability for service delivery across all assigned sites.
