Job summary

JOB SUMMARY:

Background:

The Frimley Park Vascular Unit consists of 10 consultants, 5 specialist vascular nurses, 6 Registrar grades, 3 ST1/2 grades and 4 FY1 grade doctors. The department treats patients with arterial, venous and lymphatic disease and offers the full range of vascular services including AAA repair (open, EVAR and FEVAR), carotid surgery and distal bypass. The unit has a busy AAA repair service and performs in excess of 100 aneurysm repairs per year. There is opportunity to receive training in peripheral endovascular intervention.

Frimley Park Hospital is the hub vascular unit with a catchment population in excess of 1.4 million. The unit receives elective and emergency patients from Heatherwood & Wexham Park hospitals, Royal Surrey County Hospital, St Peter's Hospital and Basingstoke & North Hampshire Hospital. The unit provides a service across 3 counties including Surrey, Berkshire and Hampshire.

This job is for a Trust Registrar level doctor (ST3+ min) to provide care for patients within the Frimley Vascular Unit and would be ideally suited for a vascular trainee looking to expand their open and endovascular exposure.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will responsible for:

Assessment, care and treatment of patients presenting to the specialty and referred to the specialty.

Participate in 2 outpatient sessions per week.

Participate in 1 or 2 vascular interventional radiology sessions per week.

Opportunity to attend up to 3 vascular theatre sessions per week.

Attend weekly vascular MDT meeting.

Teaching and training staff in other medical disciplines, nursing and support staff as appropriate.

Communication with on-take firms as appropriate.

In conjunction with the admitting clinical teams and the wider health economy to develop and implement integrated surgical and emergency care pathways throughout the Trust.

Participation in relevant audit and quality assurance processes.

Participation in the out of hours rota with 1:6 emergency vascular surgery (non resident).

To ensure that the guidance from the General Medical Council on Good Medical Practice is at the centre of your clinical practice.

To keep up to date in surgical knowledge by Continuous Medical Education in the best interest of the patient.

Although a timetable will be provided, you will be expected to be flexible, in the interests of patient care and to meet the needs of the department as decided by the co-ordinating surgeon.
