We're currently looking to welcome a Band 2 Theatre Healthcare Assistant to our Frimley Health family in Main Theatres for the Surgical and Emergency Team .

The team offers a variety of surgical specialties including Obstetrics and Gynaecology, General Surgery, Emergencies, Robotics and Vascular.

This vacancy is linked to a Level 2 Apprenticeship. This will support you to gain relevant knowledge, skills and experience that will help you achieve your potential in this role. You will not be required to undertake an apprenticeship if you have previously completed a relevant apprenticeship, NVQ or similar qualification.

Theatre operates 24 hours, 7 days a week with our shift patterns varying from a Long Day (07.30-19.30) or Night (19.00-07.30) including weekends and bank holidays.

Main duties of the job

A Healthcare Assistant (HCA) in operating theatres works as part of the multidisciplinary team. The HCA assists the Theatre Practitioners and Surgical team during surgical procedures with equipment, instruments and patient care.

  • To support the Theatre in the establishing good working atmosphere and participate in effective/efficient use of staff, supplies and services.
  • To provide support to the perioperative team in the delivery of quality patient care, within the theatre area.
  • To provide physical and psychological support to the patient ensuring their privacy and dignity.
  • To assist in effective communication channels between team members, medical staff, wards, and departments.
  • To accurately document intraoperative patient information on the trust's Electronic Medical Record system adhering to policies regarding confidentiality.
  • To prepare theatres by maintaining proper stock levels of consumables and checking that all equipment and instruments are in good, working order.
  • To ensure all equipment is regularly checked and maintained in a safemanner.
  • To participate in achieving the stated Clinical Governance, Quality Assurance and Risk Management objectives set by the organisation.
  • To support staff deployment to other areas of the Trust or to one of our sister hospitals when situation arise.
