Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for an efficient, effective and reliable leader to join Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Services as General Manager for Screening Services. Working with multi-disciplinary teams across different hospital sites, the postholder will be responsible for ensuring screening services provided are of high quality, with results provided quickly and safely on behalf of all users. With accountability for the National NHS Bowel Cancer and Cervical Screening programmes, the postholder will work to modernise laboratory pathways, leading on key projects with the Clinical Director for Bowel Cancer Screening Director and Clinical Lead for Cytology.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will be responsible for Bowel Cancer Screening, Andrology, Cryopreservation, Cytology (HPV Primary Screening and Non-Gynae Cytology) services with line management and development of senior staff. A key component of this role is to ensure performance against national KPIs in relation to both NHS Screening Programmes is maintained, while providing quality assurance and compliance with the QMS in line with UKAS accreditation standards. Robust financial control with effective procurement within agreed frameworks is also required. This postholder will be a member of the BSPS SMT, with overall responsibility for managing and directing the services and direct liaison with key stakeholders within NHSE. The General manager will be expected to develop a culture of collaborative and flexible cross-team working, showing commitment to the delivery of high quality services with improved patient outcomes.
