Job summary

We invite applications from highly motivated individuals with excellent communication skills to join our CESR Fellowship Program, designed for those aiming to achieve specialist registration through the CESR/portfolio pathway.

Fellowship Overview:

Duration: 3 yrsRotation: Across 3 leading NHS Trusts:Ashford and St Peter's NHS Foundation Trust (1 year)Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust (1 year)Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust (1 year)

Fellowship Experience: During the fellowship, candidates will gain extensive exposure to various urology subspecialties, including:

General & Core UrologyEndourology & StonesFemale & Functional UrologyAndrologyUro-Onc

Support and Guidance: The fellowship is structured to provide comprehensive support for building a robust portfolio, aimed at submitting a successful CESR application by the end of the 3-year period. This aligns with the BAUS statement regarding CESR rotations within Integrated Care Systems.

Our clinical supervisors, who have personal experience with the CESR process, will offer valuable guidance and pertinent advice. Fellows will be encouraged and supported in their pursuit to take the FRCS (Urology) exit exam.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:

  • Clinical - Duties are delegated by the Consultant surgeons.
  • Research Opportunities - Projects are encouraged - Pathology department facilities available.
  • Take part in Medical Audit.
  • Provide supervision and teaching to junior doctors and multi-disciplinary team members in General Surgery
  • The post holder will also be expected to participate in the Registrar (ST3+) on call Rota. (1 in 7 weekdays, 1 in 14 weekends on call with Royal Surrey County Hospital)

It is essential that the postholder is flexible as timetables may be subject to change as department and business needs dictate, any change would be by arrangement with the Head of Department.

Research and Audit

It is expected that the Specialty Doctor will become involved in any on going audit and research projects and will also be encouraged to embark on new projects with the advice and co-operation of the attending consultant. This Department also runs regular audit meetings involving the medical and nursing staff where appropriate and the Specialty Doctor is encouraged to participate in these.

Management and Administration

Experience in administrative management aspects of the Urology Department is very important for the development of the Specialty Doctor. It is expected that the postholder will be involved in some administration, including communication with General Practitioners as well as attending various committees.

The post holder will: be expected to participate in the middle grade on call rota. For Royal Surrey Hospital it will be 1:6 non-resident 24 hour on call at the Royal Surrey Hospital during weekdays and 1:14 non-resident 24 hour on call during weekends covering the Royal Surrey and Frimley Park Hospitals. For Frimley Park Hospital it will be 1:7 non-residential on call (17:00 08:00) during weekdays and 1:14 non-resident 24 hour on call during weekends covering the Royal Surrey and Frimley Park Hospitals.
