Clinical Skills Facilitator Midwife - Secondment

Job summary

We are pleased to offer a wonderful secondment opportunity to join the friendly and dynamic Maternity Practice Development team at Wexham Park Hospital as a Clinical Skills Facilitator Midwife Band 6, 37.5 hrs per week. This role consists of 0.5 Clinical Skills Facilitator shifts, and 0.5 clinical shifts in our maternity unit.

If you are an experienced midwife with a passion for education, practice development and supporting new learners we would encourage you to submit an application.

You will be supported by the Practice Development team to develop and hone your teaching and professional knowledge and skills.

Main duties of the job

  • Participate in the delivery of a preceptorship programme for newly qualified midwives and maternity care assistants in training, specifically in the maternity wards.
  • Work collaboratively with the Practice Development Midwives to enable appropriate educational support for the changing role of Midwives and Maternity Care Assistants (MCA's).
  • Identify new ways of working for both Midwives and MCA's to ensure safe quality care is provided for women and their babies within limited resources.
  • Support the ongoing development of the skills and knowledge required for midwives and MCA's to practice effectively.

KEY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work collaboratively with the Practice Development Midwife to lead in the development of programmes of education and training to achieve improvement in clinical skill competency for Midwives, MCAs and multi-professional team members.
  • Work with all members of the Practice development team in a collaborative and proactive manner.
  • To contribute to and participate in workforce development.
  • Provide a range of teaching within the clinical setting.
  • Maintain and develop own skills with on-going professional development.

  • To acquire and maintain new skills within your professional scope as required by the service.
  • To be involved with the setting, implementing and monitoring of clinical standards.
TEACHING AND LEARNING
  • Ensure information given to women, their families is current and evidence based.
  • Participate in the planning and development of educational programmes and assessment in practice for student midwives.
  • Ensure a conducive learning environment is provided and maintained for all learners.
  • To be involved with the development, implementation and review of induction programme for all new starter to the maternity service.
  • Network and establish links with other clinical Facilitator Staff locally and nationwide in order to benchmark current practice and aid own and colleague professional development.
  • To be responsible for own professional conduct and maintain own professional development by updating knowledge and attending study days.
  • To be involved with the collation of training statistics and reports as required for CQC/NHSLA.
