Job summary

We are looking for a dynamic, confident practitioner to join our highly regarded APP team. You should be a forward-thinking practitioner, who has the ability to bring about change and the desire to develop and improve services. You must be an experienced MSK clinician with an interest and expertise in the management of patients with hand pathology. You should be able to work independently and be able to demonstrate excellent communication, teaching and organisational skills.

The successful candidate would work in a different hand clinics alongside Plastic Surgery Consultants and independently offering both face to face and telephone consultations.

This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your skills working with our experienced hands MDT, the team includes plastic and orthopaedic consultants consultants, APPs and radiologists who meet regularly. This is the opportunity to work for an NHS Trust with a dynamic, supportive, forward thinking team of hands specialists.

If you are interested in developing your skills into being a hands APP or are already working as an APP this could be the role for you. Supervision, training and mentoring will be provided by our other APPs and consultant colleagues.

Our current vacancy is permanent for 12 hours per week (2 clinics and administration time associated with the clinics). Clinics may be held in Ascot, Maidenhead, Slough or Windsor.

Main duties of the job

To provide an expert musculoskeletal assessment, diagnosis and appropriate onward management of patients presenting with chronic and acute hand conditions within the plastic surgery clinics.

To use skills extended beyond the scope of physiotherapy to aid diagnosis and development of treatment plans in the plastic surgery clinic setting.

To interpret the results of the assessment and investigations to determine onward patient management e.g. organise appropriate injection therapy, discuss any appropriate surgical interventions and place patients on the waiting lists when appropriate, make appropriate onward referrals to rehabilitation/Consultants/clinics and discharge patients directly from clinic.

To electronically triage GP referrals into the Plastic Surgery Hands service.

To provide expert advice, guidance and information to patients, health professionals.
