Job summary
The post holder occupies an essential role in the multi-disciplinary AIR service (Adult Integrated Respiratory Service), leading the respiratory physiotherapy team alongside two established Band 7 Respiratory Specialist Physiotherapist colleagues. The post holder will lead the AIR Respiratory Physiotherapy Outpatient and Community services. Typical workload will involve Sputum clearance, Breathing Pattern Disorders, Respiratory input for Neuro Muscular Patients, Breathlessness Management and Exercise advice) with a focus on expanding and developing these services. The post holder will also lead for AIR Team Respiratory Physiotherapy education; focussing on 'in team' development, leading the IST programme, competency packages development and roll out and establishing apprenticeship opportunities. They will also focus on joined up working and specialist education between AIR and the acute hospitals, respiratory consultants, FHFT educational teams, primary care and universities for student coordination. They will also form firm links with ICB boards including the AHP faculty. They will also contribute to and support the wider AIR Physiotherapy service including Pulmonary Rehabilitation, Bronchiectasis and COPD Virtual Ward and Ambulatory Oxygen. The post holder will flexibly work within AIR in it's entirety.
Main duties of the job
They will be responsible for taking a lead role in the advanced assessment and treatment of complex respiratory patients who have diverse and chronic highly complex presentations. They will use highly specialised analytical and investigative skills to determine clinical diagnoses, treatment and devise effective and dynamic management plans. The active management of this patient population supports patients, families and carers to develop self-care strategies with the specific aim of facilitating early supported discharge and preventing avoidable hospital admission, leading to improved patient function and health related quality of life. They will work with the clinical lead to ensure seamless, consistent integrated respiratory care in this location. The post holder utilises excellent clinical, communication and interpersonal skills to identify the needs of people with respiratory disease and deliver care that recognises social, cultural and spiritual differences. This includes providing highly specialised advice, guidance, training and information to patients, health and social care professionals, carers and relatives and other non-professionals.
