Job summary
This post is for a Consultant Physician and Endocrinologist. This post holder will have combined Diabetes, Endocrinology and General Medical responsibilities. The job is a full-time post comprising of 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) including the on call although those wishing to work less than full time hours will be considered.
We are looking for an enthusiastic colleague who will help develop our local Diabetes and Endocrine Service. Our Inpatient services, Diabetic foot and Joint Antenatal services are based at Wexham Park Hospital in Slough and Outpatient Endocrine and Diabetes clinics are based at King Edward Hospital in Windsor.
The post holders will join 3 full time consultant endocrinologists and 2 part time consultants based at Wexham Park Hospital . Outpatient clinics will be provided within Wexham Park Hospital and related peripheral clinics in King Edward Hospital and Heatherwood Hospitals.
Main duties of the job
General Medicine: Ward 5 cover - 36-bed ward, plus outliers. During Ward weeks - currently 2-week block in every 10 weeks the post-holder will be covering the ward full -time with no clinic commitments. The ward consultant is expected to supervise the Registrars who see speciality referrals, take urgent GP calls, and work with the inpatient Diabetes Specialist Nurses/Foot team when needed.
Outpatient clinics: This part of the post typicallyinvolves 4-5 DCC sessions per week; General Endocrine, Type 1 diabetes, Transition, Complex Type 2 clinics, Joint Antenatal and Diabetic Foot MDT clinics. 1 session is dedicated to Admin. Diabetes clinic slots are 30 minutes. Endocrine clinic slot lengths can vary depending on whether the slot is face to face or telephone. The appointee will help with cross-cover of MDT clinics, along with the existing Consultant Team.
There will be a minimum of 1.5 SPA. There is a generous study budget for Consultants and a post-graduate centre to support Study Leave. There is a helpful on-site Library with on-line journal/article finding support.
The post holder will be part of the general medical on call rota which is currently 1:7 weekends and 1:20 weekdays.
About us
The successful applicant will be involved in providing general medical services to patients on the endocrine and general medical ward and participating in the acute general medical on-call rota.
Applicants should have a CCT in Endocrinology and General Medicine, or be within 6-months of achieving this at the time of application.
