Job summary
Our ward services lead technician plays a crucial role in leading and developing an accurate, safe, efficient and cost effective receipt and distribution service within our busy hospital. The post holder must be proactive, dynamic and motivated to continually improve the service we provide to our customers.

To lead a team in the management and development of an accurate, safe, efficient and cost effective receipt and distribution service. To ensure wards and departments maintain optimum stock levels in order to provide high quality patient care.

Job responsibilities
To manage the day to day running of the Ward Services department. This involves the preparation of rotas, planning and delivering training, following up queries and the allocation and delegation of daily tasks based on staff strengths and skill mix to meet the needs of the department.
To be the professional lead in Ward Services and to be responsible for the accurate and timely receipt and distribution of pharmaceutical stock within the pharmacy department.
To ensure that a robust process is in place and adhered to for accurately checking received goods are correct and fit for purpose.
To ensure delivery errors are promptly investigated and resolved in a timely manner including quarantining stock, maintaining accurate records and communicating with external sources to return unwanted, damaged or excess stock in a timely manner.
To contribute to providing a high-quality dispensing service, including the dispensing of controlled drugs, outpatient prescriptions, IV prescriptions, medications for our peripheral units and hospice.
To act as a practice supervisor for all trainees requiring training in Ward Services including Foundation Trainee Pharmacists, Pre-Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technicians and new starters.
