Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Specialist Band 7 Occupational Therapist with a specialist interest in Medicine and Care of the Elderly. You will support the team in providing specialist clinical knowledge to junior staff, as well as undertaking a clinical caseload to include complex cases.

You will be a proactive member of the team working closely with the Team Leader to deliver on service improvement, ensuring that occupational therapy pathways are effective and efficient and provide best possible patient care.

Main duties of the job

The Occupational Therapy service at Wexham Park Hospital is based in teams covering Orthopaedics & Surgery, Neurology, Medicine & Acute Assessment (A&E), Palliative care, General Medicine, and Hand Therapy.

Clinical duties will for example include liaison with multi professional, multi-agency colleagues to ensure patients receive the right level of care at the right time in the right setting; working within the in-patient setting; embedding quality standards in day-to-day practice. You should also expect to provide assessments, interventions, or reassessment of patients with complex requirements to support clear discharge planning.

You must be enthusiastic, person-centred, and able to provide a flexible and creative approach to delivering a high level of occupational therapy in an acute setting.

  • Diploma / degree in OT recognised by College of OT
  • H.C.P.C Registered OT
  • Evidence of post graduate training in the relevant clinical field

Desirable

  • Evidence of Relevant postgraduate courses
  • Study for a MSc

Skills

Essential

  • Familiar with RCOT documentation guidelines (SOAP)
  • Ability to work in and manage a team, in Managers absence

Desirable

  • Evidence of Clinical Audit and EBP
  • Critical Appraisal skills
  • Presentation skills
  • Teaching/lecturing skills
  • First line Management skills e.g. Conflict resolution, Recruitment & retention

Experience

  • Experienced Supervisor - staff and students
  • Working knowledge specialty anatomy and physiology
