We are looking for an experienced nurse with exceptional change leader skills to join our Paediatric Epilepsy team to work with the consultants in developing our epilepsy service. You will be supported by our team of consultants and nurse leaders.
We are a team who are open to hearing your ideas and supporting you to take them forward. You will have experience with children with epilepsy, providing education across a variety of settings, and making effective relationships with CYP and their families.
Main duties of the job
To provide care, support, advice and education across various settings for children and young people with epilepsy.
To have specialist knowledge of the nursing management of epilepsy and be an expert resource to provide clinical advice to patients, families/carers and healthcare professionals in secondary care and community settings.
To hold regular nurse-led clinics to assess and formulate care plans using clinical judgement to request investigations or make referrals.
To audit and develop the service against national and local epilepsy recommendations to improve outcomes for children and young people with epilepsy.

Job responsibilities
The post holder will be able to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team to improve the care, education and support provided to children and their families. The team will include doctors and nurses from Paediatrics and Emergency Department along with community healthcare professionals and school nurses
Professional
- To work with professional groups and other agencies in both primary and secondary healthcare settings and attend relevant meetings.
- To provide management support to children and young people with epilepsy within the community setting to avoid hospital attendance/ admission / readmission
- To promote the service across the Frimley Integrated Care System
Clinical Duties:
- To maintain a high visible profile in the clinical area, acting as a positive role model.
- To advise and support patients and their families to manage their symptoms, giving highly specialist advice as appropriate.
- To support the patients following discharge by being the first point of telephone contact, unless emergency situation
- To support the clinical lead in developing a newly diagnosed educational sessions covering :
- What is epilepsy
- Trigger avoidance
- Understanding medications
- Importance of compliance
- What to do in an emergency / exacerbation
- Self-management plans
- Management in nursery, school etc.
- Who to contact for queries
- To undertake comprehensive health care needs of patients with unstable epilepsy, including assessment when on an inpatient ward and at post discharge through a clinic or home visit.
- To liaise with patients and their families with epilepsy providing the necessary education and support in the community and schools.
- To act as a resource for training and development of other staff skills needed within the specialist area.

- First degree in nursing, or demonstrable experience at this level
