Job summary

The post holder will be responsible for undertaking with health surveillance, pre-employment screening, immediate and follow up care after sharps / splash injuries, advice to staff on relevant immunisations; health promotion and other work related health advice that may be required.

You will work alongside the Occupational Health team, and administration support to assist with the delivery of the Trusts Occupational Health Services.

The department is open from 08.30 - 16.30 Monday to Friday and you will be required to work 5 days per week during opening hours.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • To assist in the provision of a confidential and ethical service to all Trust employees and in addition, to a small number of external contracts.
  • To help provide a comprehensive pre employment health assessment service, assessing the fitness for employment of all potential employees of the Trust and when required, those of external contracts.
  • To recognise where referral is required because of health surveillance results and to refer to the Occupational Health Nurse / OHM for follow up care as appropriate.
  • In association with other trained occupational health staff, to carry out assessments of employees fitness to work.
  • To provide all necessary immunisations and tests as directed by the OH Consultant and OH Manager and to ensure that staff are recalled to the department as necessary.
  • To carry out pre-employment screening and testing of EPP staff. This includes pre-test counselling for Hepatitis C & HIV.
  • To ensure that accurate staff health data is entered onto the Occupational Health computerised database (e-OPAS).
  • To carry out venepuncture as needed
  • To assess needlestick injuries and splash incidents and under guidance from the SOHA to provide immediate and follow up care
  • To advise the OH Manager and Occupational Health Administrator of any necessary material resources required for the department
  • Responsible for stock check of vaccines and daily fridge temperature checks
  • To carry out workstation assessments where medically indicated, and make recommendations for any changes in working practice or equipment purchase
  • If required by the OH Manager to represent the department at meetings both within the Trust and externally.
  • To work with other Occupational Health staff and the Infection Control Department to provide the best possible care in the event of an outbreak of an infectious disease or other major health alert
