If so, this new role could be the opportunity you've been looking for! We are looking for an experienced paediatric therapist from a Physiotherapy or Occupational therapy background to join our neonatal team on our level 2, 17 cot unit.

This new role will be based on the neonatal unit at Wexham Park Hospital to support the MDT in the developmental care of the babies on the unit. The role will be integral to developing and establishing pathways and policies as well as promoting the role of the developmental therapist within the neonatal MDT. We have strong links with our neonatal operational delivery network who are happy to provide training and peer support.

We are looking for an enthusiastic therapist with paediatric or neonatal experience. You will be keen to innovate and develop the service while working closely with your neonatal team colleagues. You will be part of the supportive and friendly paediatric therapy team.

Main duties of the job

PURPOSE OF JOB:

Early intervention on the Neonatal Unit (NNU) aims to reduce the developmental risks for infants born prematurely or with complex perinatal problems through an individualised, family centred model of care. The developmental specialist therapist will work closely with the multi-professional team and with parents, or other carers, to assess the infant's and family's current and future needs; to support the creation of a developmentally appropriate environment on the neonatal unit; to provide individualised treatment/care plans; to support timely discharge and to ease the transition to home. Teaching and training within the units forms a core part of this post.

  • Provide regular teaching and support to facilitate high quality, individualised care to infants and relatives/carers in collaboration with the multi professional team, at all times ensuring that the needs of the patient are placed at the centre of care delivery. This may include developmental care, early intervention principals and other therapy specific topics.
  • To promote the role of the developmental therapist on the neonatal unit by providing specialist education and training to other members of the neonatal team.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to evidence based practice, clinical evaluation and audit activity.
  • To be aware of and comply with Trust safeguarding policy and procedures.
