Job summary
This role sits within a specialist paediatric rehabilitation engineering service supporting children and young people with severe and complex physical disabilities. We provide equipment that supports 24-hour postural management which plays a vital role in maintaining posture, comfort, function, and independence across seating, standing, and lying systems. As part of this role, the post holder will attend a range of specialist clinics both on-site and off-site, working within a multidisciplinary team to assess individual needs and determine appropriate AT solutions. You will provide technical advice to families, clinicians, and colleagues on the safe and effective use of the equipment along with offering technical guidance to junior staff members and liaising with external agencies where appropriate.

Main duties of the job
This position is offered at Band 6 for applicants who are registered Rehabilitation Engineers with the Register of Clinical Technologists (RCT).
However, we will also consider appointing an experienced Band 5 Rehabilitation Engineer who is eligible and committed to completing RCT registration. You will be expected to complete the required training within the agreed timeframe, and progression from Band 5 to Band 6 will depend on successful RCT registration.

This role will involve being active within the clinics we run at Chailey. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, nurses, medics and fellow engineers. You will jointly assess the complex clients we see and contribute to the design, development and manufacture of new equipment or the adaptation of existing solutions. You will be an active member of the clinical team and provide technical expertise to support clinical decision making.
You will be responsible for managing any ongoing actions, producing technical plans, engineering drawings, generating prescriptions, gathering supplier quotes and preparing funding applications. You will need to keep track of all your ongoing work and ensure it is completed in a timely manner.

8. Contribute to project files and product development, attend staff meetings and participate in delegated action plans for the department as agreed by management.
9. Work as an engaged and enthusiastic member of the RES team including supporting ongoing projects and assisting other members of staff.
RES provides clinical support to the pupils of Chailey Heritage School and a large number of outpatients referred from local services who cannot meet these clients needs.
If on a B5-6 transition post part of your main duties will involve completing your training and working towards registration. You will be supported but expected to manage your own training to a degree and obtain registration within the agreed timeframe.
The degree of supported supervision and autonomy will vary depending on the banding being appointed to and previous experience.
