Main duties of the job

  • Carry out planned, reactive, and preventative maintenance tasks across a range of Trust buildings, with a focus on carpentry, plumbing, and general repairs.

  • Respond to emergency breakdowns and ensure swift resolution to minimise disruption to services.

  • Undertake minor installation and improvement projects to enhance the safety and quality of our facilities.

  • Work both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team, liaising with clinical and non-clinical colleagues to prioritise tasks.

  • Ensure all work complies with relevant safety and compliance regulations, including health & safety standards.

  • Participate in an on-call rota and provide occasional out-of-hours support as required.

  • Degree Level Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering or Building/Construction or equivalent vocational qualification with significant experience.

  • To be able to work on security systems, comprising of door access, security tagging systems, intercom, BMS and CCTV across the Trust sites.
  • To be able to work on nurse call systems
  • To be able to work on fire alarm systems, to include scheduled maintenance for device testing, as well as overseeing the trusts monitoring system for trust wide.

Desirable

  • Carry out specialist installations and repairs on power, lighting, nurse call systems and intruder alarms BMS, including any programming that may be required.
  • Carry out maintenance repair on power standby plant such as generators and UPS and be able to safely isolate from generators or local network in the event of a malfunction.
  • To be conversant with and work on inverter drives and soft start systems.

Skills and knowledge

Essential

  • The postholder must possess good IT skills
  • To be conversant with domestic hot water, mains cold water, plumbing, high temperature hot water heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and heating systems.
  • To be fully conversant with all types of pumps, circulation systems, belt drives, pulleys and direct drive systems.
  • To be conversant with chemical dosing systems and water treatment plants and be aware of the latest Legionellae guidance.
  • Replacing and repairing of Mechanical plant, e.g. fans, filters, condensate equipment, and plate heat exchangers.
  • Carry out maintenance checks, tests and adjust for optimum performance on plant such as boilers, control systems.

Desirable

  • Design, install and test any electrical installation work as and when required and be able to diagnose and repair faults on these systems maintaining compliance with the IET Wiring Regulations for Electrical Installations (BS7671).
  • To work on, diagnose faults and repair medical oil free and reciprocating control air compressors and vacuum plant (with relevant training and approval).
  • To carry out electrical/building work, to a limited extent or assist where it is associated with mechanical installations (with relevant training and approval).
  • In conjunction with Estates Management investigate the use of energy saving devices and methods and report back on issues arising.
