Job summary
We're looking for a practical and organised Minor Works Project Manager to join our Estates and Facilities team at Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust.
This role focuses on managing small-scale building and engineering projects across our Trust. You'll be responsible for planning, procuring, and delivering minor works, ensuring projects meet design, compliance and budgetary requirements. Working closely with contractors, consultants, and internal teams, you'll help maintain and improve our healthcare environments for patients and staff.You'll also play an important role in maintaining up-to-date records, drawings and lifecycle data, and supporting the development of the Estates service more widely.
Our sites span across Sussex, and we offer flexibility with your base location--this role can be based at one of several sites across the county.
Main duties of the job
As Minor Works Project Manager, your key responsibilities will include:

Delivering delegated Estates projects from initial scoping to completion, working to Trust policies and financial instructions

Liaising with contractors, suppliers and consultants to coordinate and supervise work across multiple sites

Preparing specifications, obtaining quotes, and managing procurement processes

Monitoring project progress, performance and budgets--authorising payments once works are completed

Updating records, drawings and compliance documentation related to works undertaken

Managing risk assessments, permit systems and service shutdowns where required

Providing support to the wider Estates team, including covering for senior staff when necessary

Operating relevant software systems including CAFM, AutoCAD, and BMS to support planning and reporting

Supporting audits, compliance monitoring, and providing evidence for CQC and other regulatory standards
You'll need to be confident working independently, able to balance multiple tasks, and have a good understanding of construction and building systems in a healthcare or similarly complex environment.

Essential
- Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Building Services Engineering or Construction . Or with HNC/HND and equivalent degree level experience.
- Post-graduate qualification in relevant discipline or equivalent experience in specialist works.
Experience

- Significant experience in managing fault diagnosis, maintenance and repair of engineering plant and equipment including lighting and power systems, standby generators, air conditioning and ventilation systems, portable appliances, domestic appliances and other associated electrical building services plant and equipment. Also, management of Grounds and Gardens.
- Management of a staff team including processing of individual staff documents.
- Significant experience in a similar role.
- Experience of using computers.
- Experience in analysing data spreadsheets.
Desirable
- Experience of providing a mentoring role and experience in working in a hospital/healthcare environment for apprentice training programmes.

- To diagnose faults and effect repairs to electrical plant and equipment.
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Able to use wide range of fault diagnosis and test equipment.
- Highly skilled in use of hand and powered tools and Building and Engineering practices.

- Basic IT skills
- Produce reports for meetings.
- A working knowledge of The Electricity at Work Act
