Job summary

This post offers a fantastic opportunity for a highly experienced speech and language therapist to provide advanced clinical expertise and leadership to the Speech and language Therapy team working at Chailey Clinical Services.

Chailey Clinical Services have a commitment to provide outstanding services to children and young people with complex neuro-disabilities. You will be an expert resource and provide advanced level of clinical expertise to professionals and families within Chailey Clinical Services and SCFT. You will manage a complex caseload and undertake a specialist role as an advanced practitioner in the assessment and management of children and young people with complex neuro-disability.

You will have the opportunity to lead on exciting projects, reviewing and improving the way services are provided whilst championing clinical excellence and embedding the CQC agenda within the team.

Main duties of the job

To be an autonomous Clinical Specialist working with children and young people with highly complex neurodisability within speech and language therapy department at Chailey Clinical Services.

To be an expert resource and provide advanced level of clinical expertise to professionals and families within Chailey Clinical Services and SCFT.

To manage a complex caseload as an autonomous Clinical Specialist.

To line manage the speech and language therapy team, including therapists and assistants, at Chailey Clinical Services.

To be involved in recruitment, appraisals, supervision, sickness and absence reporting and disciplinary/performance management of staff within speech and language therapy team.

To have responsibility for the speech and language therapy budget at CCS in conjunction with senior managers at CCS and SCFT.

To develop and deliver teaching and training courses/programmes to meet the needs of professionals and carers in specialist areas.

To work on service improvements and new services within CCS in conjunction with senior management at CCS and SCFT.

To work with Speech and language Therapy Professional Lead and colleagues within CCS and SCFT to ensure effective professional practice and to promote the principles of good governance.

To translate research into clinical practice to ensure and improve clinical effectiveness.

Qulaifications and/or professional registration

Essential

  • Degree in Speech and Language Therapy or a recognised equivalent from abroad
  • Licence to practice and membership with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • Additional knowledge of specialist clinical area gained through further study and/or experience.
  • Evidence of continuing development

Desirable

  • Educated to Masters Level or equivalent knowledge gained through experience
  • Postgraduate courses and/or other relevant qualifications

Experience

Essential

  • A minimum of 5 years clinical experience working in the specialist area of childhood onset complex neuro-disability
  • Experience of liaising with senior colleagues, managers and commissioners
  • Experience of leadership and management within a professional team
  • Experience of training to families, carers and professionals in the area of clinical specialism.

Desirable

  • Experience of budget setting for a professional team
  • Experience of recruitment to a professional team
  • Experience of clinical audit
  • Experience of working with other parties in influencing and directing local and national policies
