The Special Care Dental Service is part of a countywide service providing NHS Dental treatment to patients on referral. We have clinics across the county, operating Mondays to Fridays, 08:30am to 4:30pm.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for a dedicated, organized Senior Dental Nurse to join our friendly Dental Nursing team in West Sussex - to act as a mentor to support and be willing to learn new skills and participate in all aspects of Dental Nursing.
- To work collaboratively with the Senior Dental Nurse Manager, the Dental Nurse Managers and Senior Dental Nurses working within Trust Policies and GDC scope of practice
- To support in the compiling of the clinic programme of works/rota system and to report any variances in this to the Dental Nurse Management team.
- To participate and carry out Audits and Quality Assurance checks
- The Senior Dental Nurse will provide line management to the dental nurses and decontamination support staff. This will include supporting in recruitment processes, regular 1-2-1 supervision, return to work meetings and clinical observations etc.
- The Senior Dental Nurse will provide support in the induction, training and mentoring of new dental nurses. To aid in the provision, delivery and facilitation of training sessions to dental staff at clinic/peer review meetings
- The Senior Dental Nurse will act as a role model in promoting compliance and adherence to local and Trust policies, guidelines and ensure staff work within the GDC scope of practice

This post provides the opportunity to work as a Senior Dental Nurse supporting a small team of Dental Nurses in Costal West Sussex, however you will have the opportunity to work at all our Dental Clinics.
The Senior Dental Nurse role involves:-
- Acting as a role model in promoting compliance and adherence to local and Trust policies, guidelines and ensure staff work within the GDC scope of practice
- Providing line management support to the dental nurses e.g. supervision, return to work reviews and carrying out appraisals
- Dental nursing within the busy dental clinics, General Anaesthetic Dental Sessions, Inhalation Sedation
- Delivering excellence at the point of need for our service users, whilst being compassionate, caring and adaptable to the needs of our service users and to the service itself.
