Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic Health Care Assistant to support us in delivering urgent care across Lewes, Uckfield & Crowborough in our urgent care Units. You will work as a member of the Nursing team ensuring the effective and safe delivery of care to patients whilst under the guidance, instruction and supervision of our team of Emergency Nurse & Care Practitioners. The post holder will ensure the highest possible standards of care are received by patients and their carers whilst in the Unit.

Main duties of the job

  1. Meeting and greeting patients and ensuring they are appropriately registered to the Minor Injury Unit/ Urgent Treatment Centre.
  2. Undertaking basic assessment of the patient ensuring accurate documentation and undertaking observations where appropriate. Able to demonstrate basic clinical assessment and convey any concerns to the Emergency Nurse or Care Practitioner on duty.
  3. Perform ECG's, Blood Capillary testing, Snellen eye tests, etc.
  4. Provide treatments to patients in the form of burns first aid, cleansing wounds, applying dressings, splints, walking boots, plaster casts, etc.
  5. Maintain accurate written and computerised patient records.
  6. Book appropriate appointments and follow ups for patients.
  7. Give out verbal and written advice according to patient's diagnosis.
  8. Ensures department is clean and tidy and rooms are available for use.
  9. Initiates emergency treatment where needed within own scope of skills and experience.
  10. Access and follow Trust Policies and Procedures as required.
