Job summary

Hilltop Nursery is one of Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trusts's workplace nurseries.

We operate three nurseries in Brighton, Hove and Crawley hospital sites for children aged from 3 months to 5 years.

We are open Monday to Friday from 7am to 6pm.

Hilltop nursery is located within Brighton General Hospital site.The nursery is in a converted bungalow and provides children with lots of outdoor space to play and learn.

We aim to support children to reach their full potential tough high levels of care and education while providing a nurturing safe environment.

We are seeking a passionate and motivated Early Years Practitioner with 2 years' experience of managing/leading staff in a Nursery Setting.

To manage the day to day running of the Trust Childcare Provision in line Ofsted and Children's Act requirements involving a high level of knowledge andexpertise in childcare management and interpersonal Skills. To effectivelymaintain good standards in all aspects of childcare and Early years education.

Main duties of the job

To Manage the day to day running of the Trust Childcare Provision in line Ofstedand Children's Act requirements involving a high level of knowledge andexpertise in childcare management and interpersonal Skills. To effectivelymaintain good standards in all aspects of childcare and Early years education.

To provide clear leadership to ensure that Nursery staff can meet theneeds of the children, educationally, emotionally, physically. Lead by example andsupervision, a high standard of childcare is delivered.

Job responsibilities

To keep abreast of current childcare information and ensure up to date practice atall times.

To support the allocation of nursery places to ensure maximum utilisation and tomaintain the financial viability of the nursery.

To be sensitive to multicultural and equal opportunity needs of the children,

parents and staff.

To be responsible for the investigation and reporting of incidents, accidents andcomplaints.

To maintain and organise adequate staffing levels in accordance with Ofsted, including monitoring staff absences.

To be responsible for the nutrition and dietary needs of the children, liaising withcatering.

To cover any childcare duties in the event of staff absence to ensure that the

children are cared for to the highest standard.

To lead and manage the team within the nursery, including staff supervisions,appraisals, advice and help regarding career development. To monitor all stafftraining.

To lead regular team meetings, individual staff meetings, and parent meetings.

Ensure staff are working alongside the framework of Competencies of modellinggood practice.

Ensure that all staff are regularly updated on Child Protection procedures. To bethe first point of contact for Safeguarding.

Oversee the staff to ensure that all childrens records are up to date.

To ensure that the nursery achieves high standards of care and Early Years

education and co-ordinate inspection by Ofsted.

Together with staff create a happy and secure environment to encourage play todevelop creative learning, social skills and educational activities.

Keep accurate records of children, parents and contacts, incidents, medications,finance, outside agencies.

To maintain a safe environment for all, by ensuring there are risk assessments, audits, Infection Prevention control, security, and all health and safety standards are adhered to and recorded.

To ensure that all other administrative duties are maintained, including financial,reporting and any nursery related documentation.

Order and maintain good levels of supplies for the smooth running of thedepartment and order nursery equipment when necessary.

To ensure that the appropriate maintenance is undertaken of toys and equipmentmaintenance requirements, recording inventory records.

  • N.N.E.B. / BTEC Diploma in Childcare and Education/ or Level 3 equivalent
  • Paediatric First Aid Training
