Job summary

Are you an experienced operational manager, passionate about delivering high quality and efficient adult community services? Do you want to work as part of an ambitious team focused on excellent patient care?

We have an exciting opportunity for a General Manager to join us in leading the delivery and continuous development of our West Sussex Adults Services.

Main duties of the job

The General Manager is a key member of the area management team, reporting to the Deputy Area Director, with overall responsibility for the delivery of effective, facilitative business and operational leadership across a portfolio of services.

Our General Managers work closely with our corporate and operational colleagues as well as partner and associated agencies and hold the responsibility for the delivery of finance, performance and quality of the services within their portfolios.

Your role will be to proactively identify exceptions and develop remedial plans with service leaders, clinicians and partners. You will also be involved in developing business cases, report writing and data analysis.

The General Manager has a visible leadership role across their services and you would need to adopt a curious, open and compassionate leadership style to enable staff to deliver the right care with the right skills. You will be working across multiple sites and able to drive with access to a car for business purposes.

  • Master's Degree in Management or equivalent level of knowledge acquired through experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in a health, social care or related area of study or relevant experience.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development.

  • Substantial experience in a leadership role including contributing to operational management of services.
  • Experience of monitoring, analysing and assessing clinical operational performance across multiple services
  • Experience of managing performance across multiple services, including the drafting, implementation and monitoring of remedial action plans.
  • Experience of managing budgets across multiple services and working in liaison with management accountants to establish underlying causes of budget variation.
  • Experience in drafting service level business plans, local standard operating procedures and policies
  • Significant experience of staff management, including recruitment and retention of staff, performance management, and managing sickness and absence
  • Experience of managing staff including appraisal and personal development planning
  • Experience of managing multi-disciplinary teams
  • Experience of business and operational planning across multiple teams
