As the Medical Devices Lead you will work within the Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering (MPCE) department taking the lead for Medical Devices within the Velindre Cancer Service (VCS) including working closely with the project team for the new Velindre Cancer Centre (nVCC) within the equipment workstream and be responsible for leading, influencing and delivering work programmes relating to the clinical equipping of the nVCC.
The post holder will provide expert advice and support to the Medical Devices team within the Clinical Engineering section and nVCC Equipment Workstream in relation to maintaining, planning, sourcing, commissioning of all medical devices within VCS including those necessary for the commencement of services within the nVCC, drawing on internal and external knowledge sources as appropriate.
The postholder will work closely with clinical services within the VCC to ensure that suitable and appropriate specifications are developed for all medical devices that are subject to procurement events.
The postholder will manage other technologists within MPCE working in Medical Devices and is responsible for reporting on key metrics to assure the Head of Engineering and the Director of MPCE of the performance of the Medical Devices service.
Main duties of the job
To manage the work of the Medical Devices Section within MPCE ensuring that all activities are compliant with the Quality Management System of the department and compliant with all relevant legislation.
To determine in conjunction with Services, the most beneficial configuration and profile of medical devices within nVCC, with reference to clinical need, design data and budgetary constraints.
To provide/ ensure the provision of market ready specifications for all medical devices to be procured.
To lead the development of a profiled forecast/ sub programme for new and replacement medical devices.
To develop a medical devices installation and commissioning programme capable of ensuring effective start up for services in line with the overall nVCC Commissioning Programme.
To serve as the lead interface with suppliers of medical devices during the commissioning of the nVCC, managing, co-ordinating and overseeing delivery, installation, transfers.
To ensure that medical device entries within the VCS Medical Device database are up to date, but also maintaining records/databases required for nVCC project..

- Good level of educational attainment to degree level or equivalent.
- In depth and highly developed specialist, professional and technical knowledge on medical devices, national standards, COP. MHRA and associated regulations.
- Extensive experience of producing technical medical device specifications for the purpose of procurement events.
- Subject specialist knowledge in relation to a range of medical devices including electronic equipment used in healthcare/clinical settings.
- In depth specialist knowledge of associated legislation, including health and safety.
- A very good understanding of the supplier market in relation to medical devices including electronic equipment used in healthcare/clinical settings.
- Good level of experience in supplier management gained in a healthcare environment.
