Job summary
The Acute Oncology MDT Co-Ordinator is a front facing operational role to support the smooth running and efficiency of the Acute Oncology Service. The post holder will work collaboratively as a member of the Velindre Cancer Centre Acute Oncology Service and across the South East Wales Health Board AOS team to ensure a smooth pathway for patients presenting with oncological emergencies, ensuring that the VCC team is provided with high level daily administrative support.
They will provide a range of administrative support to the teams working within AOS at the Cancer Centre linking with cancer site specific multi-disciplinary teams. This will include working as part of a team to coordinate and capture discussions, ensure conclusions are documented and communicated between organisations including VCC, LHBs and primary care. They will also be responsible for collating data and maintaining spread sheets and databases to allow evaluation of the service and its development moving forwards.
Main duties of the job
Patient pathway management is a key aspect of this role and will involve working with day units, outpatients, and all clinical areas to support clinicians in their management of patients presenting with acute clinical problems. This will include collaboration and liaison with consultant medical staff, ward/departmental staff and other CNS's, Palliative Care, Primary Health care teams, colleagues within the wider cancer network and other centres to provide seamless methods of working. The post holder will also be key in co-ordinating the pathway for patients presenting with MSCC (Metastatic Spinal Cord Compression) who require emergency Radiotherapy at VCC and ensuring that transport to and from VCC and treatment is organised efficiently and effectively.
