Job summary

Peptide Receptor Radionuclide therapy

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced nurse to join our clinical nurse specialist team at Velindre Cancer Centre. This exciting new post is to support patients with neuroendocrine tumours. A new service is being set up to be able to offer patients peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT).

You will have experience in oncology or palliative care and be passionate about delivering high quality care to oncology patients.

As a clinical nurse specialist you will act as the patient's key worker and provide holistic assessment and support to patients with neuroendocrine tumours

You must have an understanding of the needs of cancer patients; possess excellent communication skills for advising and supporting patients, relatives and other health professionals along with knowledge of managing a range of situations, including disease progression complications, and management of side effects of cancer treatments.

You will be dynamic with an ability to work autonomously, prioritise care and balance workload in a busy environment whilst supporting colleagues. You will work in the outpatient setting and ensure that appropriate pathways are in place to follow the patient throughout their treatment, clinic and inpatient settings.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

  • Acts as advocate for patients and their families
  • Delivers evidence based individualised and personised care through holistic needs assessment, planning and evaluation of care and all care interventions
  • Assesses patients information needs and provides relevant information to meet those needs
  • Enables patients to access, identify, appraise and interpret information, to determine their own future
  • Provides clinical expertise, specialist advice and support across organisational boundaries
  • Develops clear pathways of care, referring to other professionals and signposting to other agencies as appropriate
  • Promotes the service and clinical excellence by publishing and presenting innovations, audit and research both locally and nationally
  • Undertake quality improvement initiatives relevant to role and service
  • Actively participates in multi-professional meetings, acting as patient advocate and representing nursing views
  • Undertake assessment and management of clinical symptoms related to the disease process and or treatment related toxicities
