An exciting opportunity has arisen for Welfare Rights Adviser.
Macmillan Welfare Rights Adviser 37.5 hours fixed term for 14 months post until December 2024 due to funding.
The posts are recruited and employed by Velindre Cancer Centre. One post in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support. A second post as a Welfare Rights Adviser for the Wales Infected Blood support Scheme. (WIBSS) Both posts will work across the welfare rights service and as part of the wider Supportive Care Team. This is a busy, fast paced service. Working to requirements of the Advice Quality Standard (AQS) and Macmillan Targets.
You will work as part of a team of Welfare Rights Advisers. You will be responsible for a case load of clients.You will undertake case work. Assisting clients to access their entitlements to welfare benefits and other sources of financial help. Substantial recent benefit casework experience is an essential requirement of this job, preferably to the standard of the Advice Quality Standard (AQS).
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
You will work in close partnership with health and other professionals to advise the client group. You will also be involved in delivering training and information sessions and producing information materials. Experience in these areas would be an advantage.
A desire to promote income maximisation and an understanding of the causes and effects of poverty are essential.
To provide a specialist welfare benefit advice service to maximise the benefit income of people who are under the care of WIBSS and Velindre Cancer Centre their carers and families.
Work as part of the supportive care team at Velindre Cancer Centre
To provide a specialist welfare benefit advice service to maximise the benefit income of people who are under the care of WIBSS and Velindre Cancer Centre their carers and families.
To carry out complex casework up to and including appeals representation (1st Tier and Upper Tribunals).
To deliver informal training and to give advice and support to other staff both in the statutory and voluntary sectors.
To participate in take-up campaigns and liaison with other organisations.
