Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced counsellor to join the Wales Infected Blood Support Scheme (WIBSS). The Counselling Lead is responsible for the ongoing development, management and delivery of the highly specialist All-Wales psychological wellbeing service within the remit of WIBSS under Velindre University NHS Trust.
The service is in operation to provide psychological and emotional support to any beneficiaries of the scheme who have developed chronic health conditions, including HIV, AIDS, Hepatitis C and cancer as a result of being given infected blood. The service provision is also in place for beneficiaries' family members who have also been affected.
Main duties of the job
The counselling lead will be responsible for delivering highly specialist emotional and psychological assessment and interventions to individuals, couples, families and with the potential of group and community input.
The post holder will be part of the WIBSS multidisciplinary team. Managerial and clinical supervision is provided by the Consultant Clinical Psychologist for the service.
There are opportunities to be part of a larger network of professionals working within the devolved nation's schemes to share good practice and help to provide an excellent standard of care for beneficiaries and family members.
The post holder would ideally have awareness and knowledge of the circumstances and issues related to people being given infected blood and blood products and the ongoing Infected Blood Inquiry. Experience of working with people in challenging physical health contexts would be beneficial with the ability to use counselling theory and approaches flexibly and creatively. The post holder will be required to demonstrate excellent communication skills and the ability to easily form and maintain respectful and compassionate relationships within a framework of professional boundaries.
