Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner (APP) - Band 8a
South Wiltshire Locality
15 Hours per week - Permanent
This is a unique Spinal Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner (APP) position which runs from within the Orthopaedic Out-Patients department at Salisbury Hospital and local South Community Hospitals. The successful applicant will run clinics both within a primary care Orthopaedic Interface Service (OIS) and Secondary Care clinics alongside a Salisbury Hospital Spinal Orthopaedic Consultant which also means available Spinal Orthopaedic MDT face to face meetings for surgical/complex patient discussion.
We are looking for an experienced, self-motivated, APP to join our established musculoskeletal (MSK) physiotherapy service. This position is based in South Wiltshire and will be within the Orthopaedic Interface Service (OIS) spinal team. South OIS localities include Salisbury District Hospital, Amesbury and Central Health Clinic, Salisbury.
Preferably we are looking for a professional MSK APP already working at Band 8a. However, we would consider a Trainee Band 7 APP post pending application/experience. The post holder must have significant clinical experience in MSK physiotherapy with knowledge in spinal pathologies. It is important that the individual has experience of working in a clinic environment to provide a multidisciplinary approach to patient care.
Main duties of the job
In your clinics, you will assess and give an orthopaedic opinion to complex patients, ordering and interpreting the appropriate investigations and discussing the patients treatmentoptions/management plan including pain clinic, spinal injections and surgical options including the risks and potential benefits of these treatments.
The post holder will work closely with the South Spinal Consultants in Secondary care which means you will be supported to pass competencies to then be able to direct list for spinal injections and refer for spinal surgical opinions.
You would be working within a purely musculoskeletal and orthopaedic service where you would have excellent training and CPD opportunities, following an APP competency framework (Wiltshire Health and Care have supported many clinicians through the ACP MSc to date). There will be a need to work closely with the Physiotherapy Team Leads, Spinal network and other Allied Health Professionals and non-clinical staff, GP's, secondary/tertiary care consultants and other agencies. This will also include offering clinical mentorship of MSK Physiotherapy staff. The post holder will drive audit and research in this field to ensure high standard of evidence-based practice is provided for our patients and you will be involved in service development and improvement.
There is currently no on call rota or weekend working.
