Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Hybrid Porter / Stores Assistant who will provide a full range of Portering and Stores duties within the Welsh Blood Service.

This post offers an excellent opportunity for an individual who is looking to work within an NHS Stores/Portering environment.

You will be expected to work closely with a wide range of staff to deliver a high-level service.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and / or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

To provide a full range of Portering and Stores duties throughout the WBS

Deliver goods as marked to departments and prepare consumable stock cages for the Collection Teams.

To work as part of a team to provide an efficient and reliable stock management service throughout the Stores Department utilising the electronic ordering system (Oracle).

Job description

Job responsibilities

Receive and deliver goods to departments.

Daily preparation of consumable stock cages for the Collection Teams.

Supporting changes in systems, current processes and working practices within the Stores area

To carry out a range of warehouse duties /tasks in an effective manner

Responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day management of stock levels.

Liaise with suppliers and internal departments regarding deliveries and returns, encouraging the use of correct procedures and paperwork.

Resolve stock issues, including stock deficiency, damaged goods and unclear orders using own initiative.

Initiate emergency stock orders if required.

Use of forklift to lift/move large and heavy items within the Stores area.

Production of weekly audit reports to validate the accuracy of the inventory and ensure stock is being managed at previously agreed levels.

Assist in stocktaking as required.

To carry out good housekeeping duties to ensure tidiness and cleanliness of stores areas and encourage users of the areas to maintain the standard.

Comply with manual handling procedures when transporting and positioning heavy equipment, consumables.

Collection and disposal of General, Recyclable and Clinical Waste.

Deliver and collect Autoclave Waste to/from local hospital.

Cleaning of blood sample tubes using appropriate equipment provided.

Provide support with meeting room and equipment set up.

Preparation of Blood Transportation Boxes for use by the Collection Teams.

Maintain filing systems both electronic and paper whilst adhering to Information Governance procedures.

Plan and prioritise own workload.

To be flexible to provide cover for other team members.
