Job summary

The Welsh Transplantation and Immunogenetics Laboratory (WTAIL), based within the Welsh Blood Service in Talbot Green, near Cardiff, has a vacancy for a specialist HCPC registered scientist to join our transplantation services team.

Applications are invited from individuals who hold a specialist qualification in Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics i.e., IBMS Specialist Portfolio, BSHI Diploma, Scientist Training Programme or equivalent. Applications will also be considered from HCPC registered Biomedical scientists who do not hold an H&I specialist qualification. In this case the individual, will be required to complete the IBMS Specialist Portfolio within an agreed time scale, and will be paid under Annex 21 arrangements (NHS Terms and Conditions of Service), for the duration of their training.

As a Specialist Healthcare Scientist, you will be working to support the routine day-to-day technical and scientific work of the Laboratory to deliver a wide range of H&I services including renal, pancreas and haemopoietic stem cell transplantation, platelet immunology, and disease association testing. You will work in rotation across the different laboratory sections, performing and overseeing routine and complex laboratory testing including HLA-typing, HLA-antibody screening and crossmatching using a variety of laboratory techniques.

There is the expectation to participate in the laboratory on-call rota for out of hours support for solid organ transplantation.

Main duties of the job
