Job summary

The Welsh Blood Service requires a competent, experienced, individual to undertake LGV driving and other transport related duties. Applicants will be required to site, set up and pack up, our Mobile Donor Units in various locations throughout South and Mid Wales. Knowledge of main and local routes within South, Mid and North Wales would be an advantage. The contracted hours are 37.5 per week, with flexible start and finish duty times based on the operational requirements of the Service. Length of duties will vary and will include early morning, late evening working hours and a possibility of weekend working. Any time worked in excess of 37.5 hours will be paid at the appropriate rate.

Applicants will be expected to work flexible hours. Effective communication skills are essential, as part of the role will involve dealing with external contacts. A current driving licence with LGV 1 plus Cat C, D & E entitlements is essential.

Main duties of the job

The LGV driver is an integral part of the blood collection/delivery operation. Duties include the safe transportation and setting up of the Mobile Donor Clinics, the collection and transportation of blood to the WBS centre and the delivery of blood and blood components to customer hospitals. The post holder will also support the blood collection teams by transporting team equipment and assisting with the unloading of equipment required to operate a mobile blood donation clinic. Transportation of collections staff between blood donation clinics or to undertake training course as required. Any ad hoc driving and transport duties as required.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
