Senior Health Protection Nurse/Practitioner

The closing date is 24 February 2026

Job summary

This post is a Fixed Term / Secondment for 18 months due to secondment cover.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced registered nurse or an appropriately registered practitioner or allied health professional (see person specification) to join the All-Wales Health Protection Team on an 18 month fixed term basis as a Senior Health Protection Nurse or Practitioner (Band 7).

We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic individual with significant experience in health protection and strong leadership skills to work in the field of communicable disease, infection prevention and control, and other aspects of health protection.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work in partnership with other members of the Health Protection Team and the wider Health Protection Division in the surveillance, prevention and control of a range of infectious diseases and other health protection issues. This post is intended to have a specific function of supporting a resource need for the Health Protection Team during an 18 month period which may require specific delivery of certain aspects of the job description over other elements. It is highly recommended therefore that the recruiting manager(s) are contacted to discuss this specifically for greater understanding. The post is an agile working post. There will be a requirement for staff to attend the office and work from home. The nature of the job will require significant periods of time using a computer and a telephone. There will be a requirement to start work at 8am on certain days through advance rota planning. The post holder may be required to travel for the purposes of training, meetings and visits to other sites. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply. The post holder will be required to participate in delivering the out-of-hours service which runs Monday to Sunday including bank holidays.
