Public Health Wales

Senior Programme Manager

The closing date is 08 February 2026

Job summary

You can make a real difference to the health of people in Wales by using your expertise in people and programme management to help deliver Public Health Wales' transformation portfolio.

We are looking for an experienced leader to join our team and help in the design and delivery of Public Health Wales' change portfolio, leading a successful team to deliver key programmes across all areas of public health.

You will develop and implement key cross-organisational developments in areas such as business cases and benefits management. Your ability to build productive working relationships with senior public health and operational colleagues across the organisation will be critical.

You will work as part of the Portfolio Management Office in the Strategy, Planning and Corporate Affairs Division. We're committed on delivering work to an exceptionally high standard that draws on best practice and innovation based on our programme and project management (PPM) standards.

We are seeking to build a vibrant, inclusive, and healthy programme management culture where you'll have a key role in leading, developing and contributing to our ambition of working together for a healthier Wales. We actively support personal and professional development and your leadership and management skills will help you be influential in the development of others within the PPM profession in Public Health Wales.

Main duties of the job

If successful, you will support the Strategic Programmes Lead in managing the delivery of the change portfolio. This will include leading a team of programme managers, engaging with programme sponsors and directors, embedding high PPM standards, strengthening the PPM profession and turning public health solutions into well-structured programmes of work. Our portfolio currently includes programmes driving system change such as Tackling Diabetes Together, implementing new services such as National Targeted Lung Cancer Screening, and transforming our analytical capability through cloud migration.

Interviews will be held on 24 February and 3 March (shortlisted candidates will be expected to attend in person interviews on one of the dates in our offices in Cardiff).
