Job summary
Are you an experienced strategic leader ready to shape the future of healthcare planning across Wales? NHS Wales Performance & Improvement (NHS P&I) is seeking a dynamic and visionary Deputy National Director of Planning to provide system leadership and drive excellence in planning at a national and regional level.
We are looking for a strategic thinker and inspirational leader with:
- A Master's degree in a relevant field (or equivalent demonstrable knowledge and skills) and evidence of continuous professional development.
- A Post Graduate Planning Diploma (essential); a Post Graduate Diploma in Healthcare Planning and/or programme/project management qualification (desirable).
- In-depth, expert knowledge of NHS planning, with significant experience leading large-scale, complex projects/programmes.
- Strong political awareness and the ability to analyse and interpret complex data, policy, and performance information.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Demonstrable leadership, vision, and the ability to motivate and develop high-performing teams.
- A commitment to NHS values and behaviours, with resilience, integrity, and a solution-focused approach.
Main duties of the job
- Lead the design, development, and delivery of the NHS P&I Strategy and associated workplans.
- Oversee national and regional planning, service change, and support the Welsh Government-led national planning cycle.
- Provide direct management support to the National Director of Planning and deputise as required.
- Lead the NHS P&I Planning Senior Management Team and work closely with system partners, including Welsh Government, Health Boards, Trusts, and Special Health Authorities.
- Champion data-driven, evidence-based planning and ensure robust performance management frameworks are in place.
- Develop and maintain effective partnerships across the health and social care system, influencing senior leaders and stakeholders to improve population health outcomes.
- Oversee the development and integration of planning information systems, digital tools, and performance dashboards.
- Manage significant budgets and resources, ensuring value for money and effective workforce planning across multiple departments.
- Represent NHS P&I at senior meetings and facilitate stakeholder events, including with third sector partners and patients.
