Research and Evaluation Fellow

Job summary

Public Health Wales (PHW) is seeking a Research & Evaluation Fellow to support PHW's Contraception After Pregnancy multi-professional e-Learning programme of work.

This fixed-term role is for 5 months until 31 March 2026 due to the needs of the service. This is a secondment opportunity. Please ensure your line manager supports your application.

The National Strategic Clinical Network for Women's Health published the first NHS Wales Women's Health Plan (2025-2035). The Plan outlines an NHS Wales approach to improving the health outcomes for women in Wales across 8 priority areas.

PHW has committed to carry out enabling activities to support priority 3: contraception, postnatal contraception and abortion care. This programme of work aims to design and deliver multi-professional e-learning training on a holistic approach to contraception after pregnancy with embedded evaluation and co-production.

Main duties of the job

PHW recognise the need for the impact of the training to be understood. The role will be responsible for delivering a Theory of Change and an evaluation plan to understand how the training impacts recipients knowledge base and whether the acquired knowledge is translated into practice and improvement in clinical delivery and patient outcomes.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential

  • Educated to degree Level or equivalent in a mathematical, statistical, health, operational research, social science related subject with a strong research and/or evaluation component.
  • Post graduate diploma or Masters degree in health, social science or public health research.
  • Evidence of knowledge of core Public Health competencies at masters level, or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of a range of quantitative and qualitative methods for evaluation.
  • Knowledge of methods to develop, implement, and analyse complex interventions.
  • Understanding and application of NHS research, ethics, data and information governance processes, policies and procedures.

Desirable

  • PhD in a Public Health related subject, or equivalent level of experience
  • Evidence of an ongoing commitment to professional development (CPD)
  • Knowledge of Public Health policies and strategies in Wales.
  • Knowledge of health inequalities.
  • Knowledge of issues related to public health.

Experience

  • Demonstrable experience leading to highly developed specialist knowledge in research or evaluation applied to public health.
